Solar Panels Installed to Ensure Uninterrupted Power Supply at All District Offices of Youth Development
This initiative was undertaken to ensure uninterrupted power supply to Youth Development offices by connecting them to the national grid through net metering, while also generating a source of future revenue.
Under the net energy metering process, electricity generated by rooftop solar panels is first consumed by the user, and any surplus is fed into the national distribution grid. A bidirectional meter tracks the electricity supplied. If the amount of electricity fed into the grid exceeds consumption, the government will reimburse the customer for the surplus at the end of the financial year.
Under the solar panel installation program, each Youth Development office has been equipped with a 33-kilowatt on-grid solar system, a lightning protection system, a net meter, and an online monitoring system for remote monitoring. The total system capacity is 2,112 kilowatts. Each site includes solar panels, an inverter, an online monitoring system, stands and mounting structures, wiring and safety systems, a lightning protection system, air terminals, surge protection devices, down conductors, an earthing system, and commissioning and testing arrangements.
Division-wise Solar Panel Installation:
A contractor firm named Fibonacci JV installed solar panels across a total of 32 districts — comprising 13 districts in Dhaka Division, 4 in Mymensingh Division, 11 in Chattogram Division, and 4 in Sylhet Division.
The districts in Dhaka Division are: Dhaka, Narayanganj, Manikganj, Narsingdi, Munshiganj, Gazipur, Kishoreganj, Tangail, Faridpur, Madaripur, Shariatpur, Rajbari, and Gopalganj. Mymensingh Division: Sherpur, Jamalpur, Netrokona, and Mymensingh. Chattogram Division: Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Khagrachhari, Chandpur, Rangamati, Chuadanga, Feni, Cumilla, Bandarban, Brahmanbaria, and Noakhali. Sylhet Division: Sylhet, Moulvibazar, Sunamganj, and Habiganj.
A firm named Filament Science JV installed solar panels across the remaining 32 districts — comprising 8 districts in Rajshahi Division, 8 in Rangpur Division, 6 in Barisal Division, and 10 in Khulna Division.
Rajshahi Division: Rajshahi, Natore, Naogaon, Pabna, Joypurhat, Chapainawabganj, Bogura, and Sirajganj. Rangpur Division: Rangpur, Kurigram, Panchagarh, Gaibandha, Lalmonirhat, Thakurgaon, Nilphamari, and Dinajpur. Barisal Division: Barisal, Bhola, Barguna, Patuakhali, Pirojpur, and Jhalokati. Khulna Division: Khulna, Jashore, Satkhira, Bagerhat, Magura, Narail, Jhenaidah, Kushtia, Chuadanga, and Meherpur.
Following the installation and commissioning of the solar panels, electricity bills at youth training centers have reduced by approximately one-third on average. Dependence on the national grid has decreased significantly. Uninterrupted power supply has been ensured for training and administrative activities, as well as for the operation of computer labs. Furthermore, the reduction in fossil fuel consumption has made the entire power supply system more environmentally sustainable.
